On May 19, 2022, the Mesoamerican Women Human Rights Defenders Initiative (known as IM-Defensoras) released a book, “Between Fresh Water and the Tides” – the first of several publications to share what they have learned from their work over the past decade, especially in relation to Feminist Holistic Protection (FHP).
“Between Fresh Water and the Tides” describes the evolution of IM-Defensoras’ strategy for self-care, collective care, and healing – one of the pillars of FHP. In tracing IM-Defensoras’ history to the present day, the book focuses on their integration of this pillar into the personal, collective, and organizational dynamics of the women human rights defenders with whom they work.
This publication serves as a navigation chart to ensure that self-care, collective care, and healing become fundamental to the daily work of women defenders, social movements, and organizations, placing care for their lives and struggles at the center of political action.
