Pride Month 2024

With the start of Pride Month 2024, several Channel grantee partners launched campaigns and reports commemorating and highlighting Pride. These initiatives uphold and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, activists, and communities around the world.

Outright International launched its new Outright Family Pride campaign. The campaign is an extension of its pre-existing Outright Pride initiative, which seeks to “foster a truly global celebration of Pride, overcome challenges, champion progress for the LGBTIQ community, and continue to make the invisible visible”. Outright Family Pride highlights families and their ability to bring people together. The campaign celebrates “all the families of the LGBTIQ community around the world, in all their wonderful shapes and sizes, for the support they provide and the pride that they create.” These families are featured in “Family Pride” videos on the Outright YouTube.

Additionally, Outright has released a new Outright Proud Podcast series to amplify and celebrate these families. This series will include stories about “the parenting experience of Lesbian, Bisexual, and Queer activists from around the world, including Outright staff and LBQ Connect alumni, and Sounding Board members.”

Furthermore, on 11 and 12 June, 2024, Outright released a new report called Beyond the Rainbows and Glitter: Pride Around the World in 2023. Through in-depth case studies in eleven countries, the report explores the “development of Pride events and other LGBTIQ visibility events in all parts of the world” and what Pride means and looks like in these countries. In 2023, the report found that Pride events were held in over 60 countries and over 100 UN member states.

The Fund for Global Human Rights has also launched a Pride initiative through the launch of its new short film More Equal, More Happy: The Road to LGBTQ+ Rights in the Philippines on June 11, 2024. The film highlights LGBTQ+ activists in the Philippines and their efforts “campaigning to pass a landmark national anti-discrimination law” in the country. This film represents FGHR’s decade-long support of the LGBTQ+ movement in the Philippines through long-term funding.
